Weeding out fake certificate in Kenya

For long unqualified impostors have roamed the streets terrorizing and destroying what for years what we the professionals have been building in whatever industry that one is involved. They had even gone to the extreme to creating market prices for commodities that they have no clue how they operate.

You may wonder as to why am ranting, this is the pain that I and many professionals out there are felling seeing some random forks taking our  piece of cake by issue of a certificate.

For those who have happened to go to school. (In this article we will narrow down to technology experts) it takes and average of 3-4 years for campus. Once this is completed depending on what ever industry you go to there are a couple of systems that you have to learn how to use e.g oracle systems, Cisco equipment’s and the likes.

This requires more funds and brainpower so as to acquire these hands on experience. Compare this to a  guy who runs to river road and print a couple of certificates for a few shillings which will take a maximum of an hour and he miraculously is certified in let’s say computer science, and  worse he gets hired for that position you been seeking.

Certificate Database

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority will by July 2017 come up with a database with all levels of graduates from all levels of education.

Bonaventure Kerre, the authority’s chairman, said a draft framework guiding the workings of the database was presented to stakeholders last month.

“We got some allocation from the Treasury just to get us started.” he also said .

This will be a gradual process in the system development. Learning institutions will be required to update learner’s certificates on to the system and board has given a time frame of two years.

Coincidentally this has come in time when Universities regulator Commission for University Education (CUE) has raised alarm over the fake certificate flooding the market.  Also with the issue of the questionable popular politicians academic papers.

With this in place employers can comfortably employ genuine people for the right positions.  Am curious to see how this system will be developed and deployed? Apparently employers will be given access to the portal just to cross check candidates papers.
